Hispanic Advocacy

Mrs. Malú Popernik is the Advocacy Director ofHispanic/Latino Relations for Students and Families. She has worked at St. Pius for 20 years, and her three children are alumni. Mrs. Popernik loves our school and our community! Both in and out of the classroom, she advocates for all her students including our Hispanic and Latino families. 

 As the Advocacy Director of Hispanic/Latino Relations for Students and Families, Mrs. Popernik translates all correspondence and information going to and from home. This includes all emails from the office, teachers, and parents. She coordinates with all staff including the principal, administrative staff, teachers, and the athletic director, regarding events, homework, concerns, and any questions a parent or staff member may have. Mrs. Popernik also interprets for both staff and parents at the following events: parent-teacher conferences, parent meetings, registration, district meetings, amongst others. She supports families via daily phone calls and emails as well as monthly zoom meetings. The parish is an integral part of our school community, and Mrs. Popernik coordinates with the parish to encourage and guide families in accessing resources. She consistently researches and connects families with tools to meet their academic and socioemotional needs.

 It is very important to Mrs. Popernik that our Hispanic and Latino families feel welcomed and supported at our school. When we have new families start at St. Pius, she welcomes and guides them through the process to help them feel like a part of this wonderful St. Pius family. Her work continues throughout a family’s time at St. Pius, and she consistently advocates for them whether they have just joined or have been a part of St. Pius for many years.

 La Señora Malú Popernik es la Directora de Abogacía de Relaciones Hispanas/Latinas para Estudiantes y Familias. Ella ha trabajado en San Pio por 20 años, y sus tres hijos son exalumnos. ¡La Señora Popernik quiere mucho a nuestra escuela y comunidad! Dentro y fuera del salón, aboga por todos sus estudiantes incluyendo a nuestras familias hispanas /latinas. 

 Como la Directora de Abogacía de Relaciones Hispanas/Latinas para Estudiantes y Familias, la Señora Popernik traduce toda la correspondencia e información de parte de la escuela o de la casa. Esto incluye todos los correos electrónicos de la oficina, los maestros, y los padres. Coordina con todo el personal incluyendo la directora, el personal administrativo, los maestros, y el director de atletismo , con respeto a eventos, tareas, inquietudes y cualquier pregunta que un padre o el personal pueda tener. La Señora Popernik también interpreta para el personal y los padres en los siguientes eventos: conferencias con los maestros, juntas con los padres, la inscripción, juntas del distrito, entre otras cosas. Ella apoya a las familias a través de llamadas y correos electrónicos diariamente y también juntas de zoom cada mes. La parroquia es una parte integral de nuestra comunidad escolar, y la Señora Popernik coordina con la parroquia para motivar y guiar a las familias para tener acceso a los diferentes recursos. Ella constantemente investiga y conecta a las familias con herramientas para cubrir sus necesidades académicas y socioemocionales. 

Es muy importante para la Señora Popernik que nuestras familias hispanas y latinas se sientan bienvenidas y apoyadas en nuestra escuela. Cuando nuevas familias empiezan en San Pio, ella les da la bienvenida y los guía durante el proceso para ayudarlos a sentirse como parte de nuestra maravillosa familia de San Pio. Su esfuerzo continua durante el tiempo que la familia está en San Pio, y constantemente aboga por ellas ya sea que apenas hayan iniciado o que hayan sido parte de San Pio por muchos años.
